ArcSoft VideoImpression

Create cool home movies and slideshows

ArcSoft VideoImpression is a tool that allows you to easily create videos and slideshows.
The user interface of the program is clean and intuitive. The whole movie-making process consists of six steps - "Media", "Edit", "Effects", "Text", "Narrate" and "Produce".You can start by importing sample videos, stills, colors, textures and audio, and add them to the storyboard by using the "drag and drop" method.Editing options include adjusting the brightness and contrast of the image, trimming the audio or video image, and "Photo Sizing" (in the right-click menu - "Best Fit", "Fill and Crop", "Stretch to Fit").In the following steps you can add transitions (e.g. "Diagonal", "Uncover", "Diamond", "Pixelate", "Blinds") and themes ("Sepia Video", "Oldtime Movie", "Black and White Video", "Rock Video", "Pop Video", "Easy Rhythm Video").Furthermore, you can add text, but you can also record a narration over the video, as well as export your movie as AVI, DV, MPEG1, Video CD or Windows Media file, send it via email, and more. The program takes up a rather high amount of system resources, has a help file (that's not very thorough) and is simple to use, since it doesn't come with any kind of advanced settings. For example, you cannot change the text position, add watermarks, configure any effect and transition settings, and the storyboard doesn't have a marker you can use to pinpoint position. Also, in order to add a theme, you must include an audio track in the first video file, one that cannot be four times shorter than the video length or longer than 10 minutes. Plus, there are only three video editing options (needless to say, you cannot configure aspect ratio, frame rate, and so on), the audio samples have a poor quality, and applying more than one themes almost crashed the software. In all fairness, ArcSoft VideoImpression is definitely oriented towards first-time users, and it's no more than a good video creating tool to start with.
